updates

i have a feeling nobody reads this blog, but i'm going to keep posting anyway dammit.

sight & sound is progressing relatively smoothly. i just got my grade back from the rhythm project (A-, not bad) and tomorrow i'm meeting with steve to check in about my landscape project, which is due friday the 23rd. i'll be shooting my action project the weekend after fall break (the weekend of the 30th i guess) and i'm VERY well prepared for it because i actually thought this upcoming weekend was when we were supposed to shoot. i'm all storyboarded and have my location secured and everything, so hopefully that shoot will be very efficient and successful, considering all the pre-production work i've already put into it.

in unrelated news, musician/producer/local legend/boyfriend max horwich and i have been working on my first EP (under the name orca star), which will ideally be completed over fall break and released next month. the first track is almost finished and it sounds awesome (i can say that because max is responsible for a large percentage of the awesomeness).

anyway, i need to do some dombrowski reading. keep it real, cinephiles.

more pics

oh, nice box...i wonder what could be inside it...omg it's DEVELOPED FILM READY TO BE EDITED!! and the filmmaker's handbook. nice.

some photos from the shoot--fielder's project

and so it begins...

i actually have things about which to blog...when my time isn't being completely eaten up by the things about which i will later blog. confusing? perhaps. but i digress...

last weekend i shot my first sight & sound project, the first film of my own design and direction. to be honest, it was an intensely stressful experience, but all in all it turned out to be a very rewarding one.

i filmed a pair of totally cool shows from different angles, then filmed max's cute little birdlegs dancing around in them. some of the shots turned out darker than i would have liked (damn sun setting, who the hell does he think he is...), but most to all are totally usable. and i know that for a fact...the film has been developed and my dailies were screened in class today.

we can begin editing our projects immediately, and i'll probably work on it this weekend. we're all shooting our second projects the weekend of the 25th (not this weekend but the weekend after that). i'll keep you all updated.

in the meantime, PICTURES!!!

it's been a while, i know...

heyy anyone who still reads this:
things have been crazy lately between finals and everything else at the end of the year, so i haven't had much time to blog it up lately. BUT i am back in california now and have a few film-related summer plans on the horizon.

i bought a color/sound super 8 camera a few months ago and i'm going to try to procure some film for it in the next few weeks. i'll probs take on a short summer project if i can get a little support from friends and family--i'm working on a few screenplays that could be interesting. also, i've been in talks with my awesome bf max of sewing machines about the possibility of shooting a music video/tour documentary/avant garde short film for the band on their west coast tour this summer. very cool.

my friend nick garcia (stand-up comic/fucking awesome MC) is writing a feature-length about life in chicago, and i'm gonna sweet talk him into letting me help with the production in some way. shooting will most likely happen next summer (or some other time after this summer), but hopefully i'll be around when that shit goes down, because working with nick sounds like a super great idea.

i'll try to be better at updating shit, and i might even put up some photos or other interesting things sometime in the near future. maybe. on a completely different note, i'm seeing animal collective in like 3 days, which kicks so much ass i'll probably go blind. no joke.

no joke.

reshooting, troubleshooting

we re-shot the end of jordan's film last night, which was quick and painless. i ended up staying up until 4am and waking back up at 7 to finish a paper, then i had to prepare for a presentation on unwed teenage mothers in the 1950s i had to give in front of my perspectives on motherhood class four hours later.

here's a fun little story: some of you may know that lack of sleep will either make me grumpy, extremely sensitive and melancholy, or ridiculously delirious and giggly. well today ended up falling into the third category. during my presentation in class this morning, one of the other students made a comment about media representations of the suburban nuclear family and threw out, "you know, that one sitcom called something like 'the beaver family'..." i knew full well exactly to what show she was referring--"leave it to beaver"--but in my sleep-deprived state i confidently responded, "ah yes, 'the angry beavers.'" and then i proceeded to giggle about it for the rest of class, trying so hard (and failing even harder) to keep a straight face. i am a complete tool.

not exactly film...

but still pretty damn cool.
check out this article reviewing wesbands in the hartford advocate, starting with my girls Precision Libido (look for the indirect reference to yours truly re: accordion). i have too many friends in The Shade to remember all of their names mid-migraine right now (i probably shouldn't even be blogging at all, as i have the sneaking suspicion that this post is not only off-topic but incomprehensible). finally, KFD, almighty deities of golden crispy face-melting metal. this ain't no dollar menu, kids--the vegan police plays for keeps (what am i even saying?? i'm sure i'll delete this post in the morning once the nyquil wears off).

and if i wasn't already pleased as punch to see my own band and friends' bands in print, my bf got a shout-out as well. you should, as the article suggests, visit futurefolkrecords.com, brainchild of max "awesomepants" horwich and his pals.

good night.

note: i don't think anyone has ever called max "awesomepants"...until now.

today's lesson...

always make sure your film is loaded properly, kids.
it seems the second reel was loaded improperly on jordan's project yesterday and, as a result, we have to RE-SHOOT THE ENTIRE SECOND HALF OF THE ENTIRE DAMN MOVIE (jordan i don't know if you're a reader of tc&tc, but in case you are: heyyyy don't worry about it, this happens to everyone, i'm sure spielberg blah blah blah). at least we still have the first half...there is no one in this world (and i mean no one, from the Pope to Prince) who could convince me to "convulse" on broken glass outside of hi-rise all over again. no more sticky chocolate syrup on my face, no more getting whacked in the head by a big metal door while lying on the ground with a sheet over me, and no more effing convulsing.

now if you'll excuse me, i have a few more packs of oreo funstix to snarf.
peace.

new acting resume material: convulsions

i'm pretty much a master at them now, after rehearsing several times and then filming three takes of me falling to the ground in a fit of convulsions, before having a sheet thrown over me and my head destroyed by a metal pole (a C-stand to be exact, which is actually a piece of film equipment...how self-referential).

i've got some time to chillax right now, since i'm not in the next few shots. jordan (el jefe) wants some supernatural stop-motion shit, so that's what's going down at the moment. i just like the idea of him going the rest of the year with "DIE, YOU LIMP-DICKED BASTARD!!" scrawled on his bedroom wall (my character is a little peeved about the whole getting-murdered thing).

i'll write more later, but first i have to wash hershey's syrup out of my hair.

--------------
edit: i believe the final draft ended up being "SUFFER, DIE LIMP-DICK PSYCHOFUCK :)"

sunday sight & sound MADNESSSSSSS

so shooting for grace's project just ended, an endeavor lasting just over four hours. not too bad, considering we had some pretty frustrating technical difficulties--we couldn't get the camera to roll when we tried to shoot the second tracking scene, and once jeff finally got it to work, one of our lights blew out. we still had two others, but it threw off our 3-point and made for a slightly harsher fill than we had anticipated/wanted. i still think it will turn out nice though.

and now, POP QUIZ!
i have agreed to act in two sight & sound projects in the same day BECAUSE:
a) i am a masochist
b) i can't say no
c) sometimes i commit myself to things without really thinking them through
d) all of the above

i now have an hour or so to rest up before heading down to lo-rise to be murdered and then avenge my own death by killing my killer. and i also have to find something "white and billowy" to wear (anyone who knows me well can attest that neither of those adjectives are in my vocabulary, let alone my wardrobe). i can only hope it will be a time-efficient shoot.

what up, party people-
shooting for grace's next sight & sound project starts (and hopefully also ends) tomorrow. i'll keep you updated.

DUDES' NIGHT OUT

here's the link for DUDES' NIGHT OUT, henry kaplan's sight & sound final, in which i play the kidnapped (and implicitly raped?) girlfriend of a cowboy. you should check out mr. kaplan's other posted film WE WERE WARNED while you're at it, as he's quite the budding auteur.

introductions slash why this blog?

hello everybody.
at the most, you might be mildly curious as to why the hell i would have any reason for starting a blog. well i don't, not at this point anyway, but i figured i could secure the name and bide my time until i actually do have significant things to post. i suppose i started it for the same reason anyone starts a blog: procrastination. that being said, allow me to give you the abstract.

i started this blog with the intentions of posting updates on various film projects on which i embark, to be read by the cast (so the actors involved can track the progress of the film and see pictures of themselves, which all actors love) and the curious (friends and relatives of those involved with the production, or anyone with an interest in filmmaking and/or my bidness). ohhhh ain't i clever?

since i am not working on any film projects at the moment, i will fill this blog with other little tasties until i am working on a project, at which point i will stuff it silly with photos, updates, clips, interviews, and god only knows what else.

i have a few acting roles on the horizon, both under the direction of the lovely and muy misterioso grace kredell. i don't know what the first one is called (sight & sound project #3?), but it won't be family-friendly, i can tell you that much. the second is tentatively titled "my girl delivers!", in which i will be portraying a teenage pizza-girl/assassin hired to take out my friendly acquaintance ernesto (sorry i tried to break into your house, ernesto) with kickass kung-fu moves, courtesy of wesdojo nick marshall. grace also informs me she plans to cater to my "star image" by playing blondie's "call me" as i'm prettying myself up in the rearview mirror while driving to murder ernesto (ray's awesome car will most likely make an appearance, as well as her hillary clinton "i'm your man" air freshener).

so that's all for now. keep checking back for more updates, cinephiles!
love dylan
